To have been born a descendant of Owen Cavanough, i must consider myself most fortunate indeed… for without him , our familyhistory would lack facination , romance and enduring 18th century character…
If it had not been for the shipwreck of the H.M.S. Sirius off Norfolk Island on Friday the 19th March 1790 , the generations of CAVANOUGH,S who have followed may never existed…
The sirius was bound for china to obtain supplies for the starving fledging settlement of Sydney N.S.W. in all probability he could quite as easily left the Sirius to sign on the East India trader bound for his beloved England … never to be seen again , but has history tells us the Sirius succumed from the seas off Norfolk and Owen survived the ship wreck, this is where he meet and married Margaret Dowling and that is where the Cavanough descendency begins MAY WE ALWAYS BE PROUD OF OUR HERITAGE.
